MAINTENANCE OFFICER

Donnelly River Village provides holiday accommodation in 38 timber cottages in the heart of Australia’s southwest karri forest.

We are seeking a Maintenance Officer to help maintain and improve the cottages, grounds and services. This is a diverse role working in a great environment.

KEY JOBS:
1) CARPENTRY/CARPENTRY ASSISTANT
a) Renovations and minor improvements to timber cottages and buildings;
b) Restumping and repairs to stairs, verandahs, balustrading, etc.

2) MAINTENANCE OF COTTAGES
a) General maintenance of timber cottages, running repairs, glass replacement, cladding, painting.
b) Manage electrical, plumbing and gas services.
c) Roof maintenance, insulation, running repairs.

3) MAINTENANCE OF GROUNDS AND SERVICES
a) Manage wood supply including cutting rounds and distributing split rounds and mill ends to cottages;
b) Manage grounds, including fallen trees and pruning;
c) Seasonal weed identification and control;
d) Watering and maintenance of new trees;
e) Raking, burning-off and fuel load reduction, fire truck;
f) Maintenance of slow combustion fireplaces and flues;
g) Manage water supply, pumps, chlorination;
h) Maintain and improve recreation and play equipment;
i) Minor constructions and road maintenance.

4) BACK OF HOUSE HOSPITALITY
a) Checking cottages prior to occupation; cleaning yards, verandahs and bbqs
b) Checking cottages after guests depart;
c) Collect and manage rubbish and recycling;
d) Checking and replacing gas cylinders;
e) Distributing and sorting linen;
f) Working with food, cooking.

5) FRONT OF HOUSE HOSPITALITY
a) Shop assistant, service of coffee and café food.
b) Relief work for management and bookings staff
c) Direct customer service for village guests

SKILLS AND ATTRIBUTES:
• Work within a small team, cooperative, empathetic and relate well with work colleagues;
• High level of initiative; resourceful and inventive in finding solutions;
• Adaptable to the fluctuating demands of a tourism business;
• Self-organised and willing to fulfil a variety of tasks, sometimes menial or time constrained;
• Motivated, practical and physically able to carry out the work
• Customer service skills whether working directly or indirectly with guests
• Clean driving license
• Experience with tractor driving, chain saw usage, pumps and small machinery, minor welding;
• Knowledge or interest in landscaping and the environment; care of wildlife;
• Practical or skilled with a diverse range of machinery;
• Knowledge of electrical, plumbing and mechanical services;
• Commitment to maintaining a safe working environment;
• Senior First Aid certificate and/or fire-fighting experience desirable
• Creativity and special interests/skills encouraged
